No more searching your memory at the rheumatologist’s.

FlareEase is an app where you record pain, fatigue and tender joints in a few taps.

It leaves diagnosis and treatment to your doctor, and helps you show them what happened between visits.

A visit lasts fifteen minutes.
Months pass between visits.

Doctor

“How are you?”

You

“Fine today, I think.”

But your doctor isn’t asking about today. They want to know how you’ve been since your last visit.

By now, that bad February has blurred into “fine, I think”. Which joints hurt, how long it took to get moving in the morning, how many days you had no strength – it’s gone.

In FlareEase, you write down how you were while the day is still fresh in your mind. Not three months later.

Who’s behind it

Zuzana Halgašová

Mgr. Zuzana Halgašová, patient, founder

She lives with a rheumatic disease herself; her father lives with ankylosing spondylitis.

“I know what it’s like to sit at the rheumatologist’s and not remember how the last few months went – I went through it myself and saw it with my father too. I wanted a place where I could write it down in a minute and then show my doctor numbers instead of ‘fine, I think’. I couldn’t find one, so I’m building it – for me and for you.”

  • Ing. Pavel Balashov, co-founder.
  • Three rheumatologists work with us.
    • prof. MUDr. Emöke Šteňová, PhD.
    • MUDr. Kristýna Bubová, PhD.
    • MUDr. Dominika Slezáková
  • We are looking for our first patients together with the League Against Rheumatism in Slovakia and Revma Liga in Czechia.

What’s inside

We are starting with rheumatoid arthritis. If you have another rheumatic disease, such as axial spondyloarthritis, psoriatic arthritis, lupus or fibromyalgia, sign up too. We’ll write to you when FlareEase is ready for you as well.

Daily check-in: the question Overall, how much did your arthritis affect you? with a scale from 0 to 10
Daily check-in. Pain, fatigue, morning stiffness. A few taps.
Body map: an outline of a hand with joints you can tap
Body map. Tap the joints that are tender today.
My medications: a list of the medicines you take
My medications. What you take, in one place.
Note: an empty text field with the example E.g. swollen knee, bad night, stress at work
Note. What a number can’t say, you write in your own words.

The last few months on a few pages

Before your visit, you create a PDF doctor report from your records. Tender joints, morning stiffness, fatigue and medications.

Take it with you to your visit. When your doctor asks “How are you?”, the answer is at hand.

Page one of the sample report: a calendar of recorded days, medication intake, the corticosteroid dose and weekly charts of the overall rating and fatigue Page two of the sample report: outlines of hands and feet with the joints recorded as tender, their count by week and the joints recorded most often
A sample with example data.

The same questions your rheumatologist asks

These are simple questions rheumatologists routinely ask their patients. We just put them on your phone.

No smiley faces. Numbers your doctor can read.

  • About a minute a day. You tap, you don’t type. Add a note only if you want to.
  • Big buttons. For hands that hurt.
  • No streaks and no counting missed days. If you skip a day, that’s fine.

What FlareEase doesn’t do

  • It doesn’t diagnose.
  • It doesn’t replace your rheumatologist or your treatment.
  • It doesn’t judge how you’re doing.

Your data

  • Only you can see your records, and whoever you choose to show them to.
  • We don’t sell them. We won’t share them with anyone without your explicit consent.
  • Your data is stored on servers in the European Union.

Frequently asked questions

What happens to my data?

Only you can see your records, and whoever you choose to show them to.

More under Your data.

Do I have to record every day?

Ideally, yes – it takes about a minute.

The more days you record, the more accurately you can tell your doctor how you’ve been. If you skip a day, that’s fine, and we won’t hold it against you.

Does FlareEase diagnose rheumatoid arthritis?

No. FlareEase doesn’t diagnose and doesn’t replace your rheumatologist.

It’s for people who already have a diagnosis, and it records what they enter themselves.

Will my doctor want to see it?

That depends on your doctor, and we don’t promise it.

Your record is first of all for you, so that at your visit you remember how the last few months went. That works whether or not your doctor looks at your phone.

In the app, you create a PDF doctor report that you can show at your visit. We prepared its content with three rheumatologists.

Is it also for axial spondyloarthritis, psoriatic arthritis, lupus or fibromyalgia?

For now, FlareEase is for rheumatoid arthritis. But sign up with another diagnosis too.

Who signs up will decide which diseases we add next.

When FlareEase is ready for you as well, we’ll write to you.

When will FlareEase be available?

We’re opening early access soon, and we’ll send you an invite by email.

We invite people in the order they signed up, and we’ll ask the first ones what they miss in the app.

Where do I download FlareEase?

FlareEase isn’t downloaded from an app store.

You open it in your phone’s browser and add it to your home screen. You’ll get instructions with your invite.

What exactly do I record in it?

Pain, fatigue and how much your arthritis affected you, on a scale from 0 to 10. Plus how long your morning stiffness lasted and whether pain woke you at night.

On the body map, you mark your tender joints and record which medications you took. If you want, you add a short note about the day in your own words.
